How should I take these two pictures?

Answer:

Take one picture of the objects that you want to measure, and then walk sideway a few steps and take another picture. Maintain roughly the same distance to the objects in the two shots and do not pan the camera too much (the viewing directions of the two shots should be roughly parallel). Do not change any setting on the camera; just point and shoot.
